HDRI made from three different exposed photos. The postwork was made to enhance the lightning behind the tree, so the halo effect is achieved by intention :)

I've pushed a little more contrasts here to give more importance to the rays and the "surreal" mood of the photo. Hope you enjoy ;)

Comparison with the non-reworked HDRI shot is here [link]

UPDATE!!: I've softened the source photos to lower the grain on the grass (caused by the oversharpening of the camera settings I forgot to change :rage:) and I've lowered the overall contrasts to make the photo look more "realistic" ;)

[Mid-exposed shot settings:]
Camera: Fujifilm Finepix S5600
Shutter speed: 1/160 s
Aperture: F/8
Focal length: 16 mm
ISO speed: 64

[Post-work: ] HDRI + contrast
[Software used: ] Photomatix, Paint Shop Pro Photo XI

Exceptional photograph. It's amazing how hard we work to capture that one second that we get in a photo and our eyes see things so much more richly. Amazing to me haha

Excellent work on this, very warm and inviting

Thank you so much! We both, me and my country :D, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

It's funny to hear that though, since I really love YOUR country! I've been to Finland once, exactly where you live! :aww: I've been very fascinated by the snowy weather, the freezed sea, the goodness and kindness of people... I'm always saying that one day I'll move, and Finland is one of the most probable destinations! :)

Oh, it really is funny to hear that, ´cause often people know nothing about this small country! Well, now there isn't so much to see in Finland, ´cause the weather is so bad :/ Wetty, and no snow. There are seasons when I would like to travel far away from here!
I visited your country last autumn, I was couple days in Rome. And yeah, I really liked it :) And I'm missing the food of there :D aww, so good.

ehehe, that's something I've heard from people all around the world: italian food! :D
I must admit that's something I would bring with me wherever I may go! I love pasta too much!

I'm sorry that the weather is bad in your country! Here it was very good but it's turning bad now... I hope the first weeks of january will be good for some mountain/snow photography! ;)

Yeap, I really miss that tasty pasta! :P And pizza, aww...

Good luck! :)
I hope better weathers too, so I could take photos of my cousin in outside. But now there looks so depressing, grey and wetty, so maybe I'll just have to wait..

What?!? How could I possibly have missed this? It's beautiful. One thing though, the grass is a little grainy, is that because of the HDRI?

Thanks a lot Alex!! :)

Take a look at the link in the description, you'll se that before the last editing (right side picture in the scrap) it was even more grainy! :(

The problem is a consequence of two errors I made:
1) I forgot the sharpness set to "high"
2) I didn't smooth the microcontrasts levels during HDRI process
If you add to these two the fact that the lightning was very harsh, you have grainy grass! :D
The only thing I made to made the effect less evident was softening the original photos and processing them again (forgetting to smooth again :().

I see what you mean!
Well, sometimes all we can do is learn from our mistakes and laugh about them afterwards.

However, it still looks great (and much better)

I'm happy, because now I know what you are talking about when you say HDRI.:D

I have an other question..
When you say you do HDRI, do you need a program made only for that, or you can do this on photoshop?

I use a program made for that (written in the lower part of the description), but it can also be done with a plug-in of PS. ;)

As I'd mentioned on [link] I'm not a massive fan of HDRI - but once again this is a great shot and doesn't look unrealistic. What was your reasoning behind the intentional halo - for me that is the only thing that I'm not sold on in this image (it'd be interesting to see it without it). Compositionally it's awesome, love shots like this with morning or late afternoon sun silhouetting trees.

I've added a comparison with the out-of-hdri processing image. There is some halo though, I didn't notice... image is here [link]

Thank you so much!! You mean the halo on the upper part of the tree? I think I let it happen to make the photo more "surreal". However, I'll post a less edited shot in the scrap section and I'll try to edit this one so that the halo is less visible and I'd be very thankful if you could take a look at it to tell me what you think. :)

Btw I have another shot of this subject, but with different composition (horizontal with more background and a farm-house) and weaker hdri processing (less halo :)). Maybe I'll post it ;)
